French Second Empire Mansard Restoration

French Second Empire Mansard Restoration

HKC is honored to have been chosen to renovate the mansard of this late 1800’s, French Second Empire home, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Our craftsman diligently disassembled the existing conditions, performed restoration work to the built-in gutter, masonry, copper sheet metal flashings and natural slate roofing. All details were reverse engineered to ensure strict adherence to the original conditions. HKC sourced Vermont natural slate roofing, the same type, size and colors used during the homes construction. European “sweep seams” were utilized to ensure a permanent flashing detail as the decorative water table transitions to the slate roof. The wrought iron railing was removed, chemically cleaned, repainted and installed in a manner that does not penetrate the decorative copper sheet metal work. We believe these design enhancements will ensure 100+ years of service life.
